Vivian E. Combes, 98, passed away September 27, 2011. She was born January 6, 1913, in Guthrie, OK, the daughter of the late Thurman and Della (Cross) Ellison. She was married to Ralph O. Combes, who preceded her in death November 10, 2008, after 72 years of marriage.
Vivian and Ralph served as missionaries in Haiti, Martinique, and Trinidad, during the 1940's and 1950's, where they started their family. She retired from Indianapolis Junior Academy, after over 20 years of service.
She is survived by two daughters, Deanna (Richard) Pendleton and Della Decooman; three grandchildren, Tania (Daniel) McLaughlin, Tina (Rick) Ingalsbe, Derrick Pendleton; one great grandson, Christopher Decooman; and three great-great grandchildren, Molly, Tylan, and Ashtyn. She was preceded in death by a son, Dale Combes; brother, Doyle Ellison; and a sister, Wilma Freeland.
She was a member of the Glendale Seventh Day Adventist Church, but due to health reasons, had not attended for several years.
Services will be Sunday, October 9, 2011, 3:00 pm, at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center Broad Ripple, 1305 East Broad Ripple Avenue. Visitation will be prior to the funeral service, from 1:00-3:00.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to, Indianapolis Junior Academy, and/or to, The Waters of Greencastle Memory Care Unit.
