November 27, 1944 — December 6, 2023

Martinsville

Martinsville, Indiana – Virginia Maye Kleine passed away while being comforted by her family and friends at home on December 6, 2023. She was 79 years old.

Maye was born on November 27, 1944, to Isaac and Lois (Ponders) Lillard in Jasper, Georgia. One of 14 children, Maye grew up surrounded by the love of her family and brought that with her to Indiana, where she met the greatest love of her life, Sandy Kleine, and remained together until his passing in January of 2015.

Together they loved to travel and were members of the Greenfield Conservation Club, Hancock County Snowmobile Snow Roamer’s Club, and she was a longtime member of The Ladies of the Lakes. She and Sandy could be found across the United States, camping or boating.

Maye also loved reading, her favorite author being Nicholas Sparks. She also loved true crime and the ID channel, gardening, and collecting angels. Her favorite passion though was her family.

This ornery, sweet, and kind woman will be deeply missed, not only by her family, but also the many, many dear friends she has made in her life.

In addition to her parents and husband, Maye is preceded in death by her grandchild Rhea.

She is survived by her children, Kim Toloday, Brandon Kleine (Rachel), and Chris Pennington; grandchildren Kiara, Christian, Christina, Jaxson, Cory, Dylan, Olivia, Zach, Candice (Eric), Melanie (Peter), Rylee, Raegan, and Ruston; 4 great-grandchildren; and her dear friends Doug and Pearl Meadows, Bonnie Ritter, Loraine Ward, Francis Wilson, Misty and Mike Caldwell, and Jan Schoenfelder.

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 11, 2023, from 11 am – 1 pm at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East (10722 East Washington Street, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46229) with services following at 1 pm with Pastor Andy Flink presiding. Burial will be immediately following service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Maye to Hope Center Indy at 11850 Brookville Road, Indianapolis, 46239.
