Virginia “Jinny” E. Brouwer, 99 of Carmel, passed away Saturday, February 5, 2022. Virginia was born September 4, 1922, in Brazil, IN to the late Hardy and Mary Hicks. Virginia was the widow of John W. Brouwer. She served in the community as a member of the Crossroads Guild and the Benefé Guild.
Jinny and John met while working at Maryland Casualty Company in Indianapolis. They married, had four children, and raised them in Brendonwood. Jinny had a passion for Music and the Arts. She loved playing the piano and attending performances by the Indianapolis Symphony and working in interior design. She shared her passion with her children inspiring their appreciation of the arts. Her passion extended to politics and civil rights. She stood strong on her convictions leading a class action suit against Firstmark Securities, hosting fundraising events for political candidates, and joining demonstrations against the Vietnam War. Jinny enjoyed shopping and was known by her friends as a “fashionista.” She loved playing golf and spent hours in her final days watching golf on TV and noting how she could have improved her game.
She is survived by her children: Gregory P. Brouwer (wife, Rebecca), Deborah E. Brouwer (husband, Gregory Chann), Claudia J. Levindofske (husband, James), and Theresa B. Zimmerman; grandchildren: Hannah Goetz, Jay Brouwer, Molly Brouwer; step grandson: Paul M. Zimmerman and Richard C. Zimmerman; great grandchildren: Connor Goetz, Finn Goetz, Claire Goetz, and Sailo Huff; step greatgrandchildren: Cassidy Zimmerman, Haley Zimmerman, and Aliya Zimmerman. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Hardy O. Hicks, Bill Hicks, and Bob Hicks.
