Virginia “Jennie” Lee Wells, age 90, of Manitowoc, passed away Saturday, July 22, 2023, at River Woods Place Assisted Living of Manitowoc.
Virginia was born on October 1, 1932, in South Point, Ohio, to the late James and Nancy (Webb) Dillon. The family moved to Ashland Kentucky when she was a baby. Virginia attended and graduated with the class of 1950 from Ashland High School. She married Charles O. Wells on February 23rd, 1951, at First Baptist Church Annex of Ashland. Her husband Charlie preceded her in death on April 14, 2005. Virginia accepted Jesus as her Savior when she was 14 years of age at First Baptist Church in Ashland Kentucky. She enjoyed church activities in her teen years. After marriage, Virginia enjoyed traveling extensively with her husband and family, including mission trips. She worked side by side with her husband in their family business, Charles O. Wells Cement Contractors. They moved to Indianapolis in 1956 where they lived for 20 years and moved to Martinsville in 1975, where they lived for 41 years. Virginia was an active member of Calvary Heights Baptist Church for 41 years where she taught Sunday School and bible school for many years before she moved to Manitowoc Wisconsin in 2017.
Survivors include her four children, Terrie Carrico of Riverview Florida, Jeff Wells (Sue) of Brownsburg Indiana, Nanci Weaver (Ross) of Bend Oregon, Julie Ribley (Jeff) of Francis Creek Wisconsin; one daughter-in-law, MaryAnn Wells of Greenfield Indiana; 14 grandchildren: Joshua Carrico, Matthew Wells (Cheyenne), Simon Wells (Alexis), Jennifer Driesbach (David), Whitney Wells (Heather), Sydney Wells (Hunter), Sam Wells, Jessica Weaver, Nick Weaver, Zack Weaver, Jena Peters (Zach), Josie Paplham (Weston), Jace Ribley (Taylor), Jack Ribley (Kora); 14 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Charles “Chuck” A. Wells; one Grandson, Justin Carrico; and 6 brothers, Albert Dillion (Ruth), Arthur Dillion (Thelma), Charles Dillon (Kathleen), William Dillon (Garnett), James Dillion (Eunice) and Chester Dillon (Mabel).
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at the Flanner Buchanan-Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis, IN. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until the time of service. Entombment will take place at Washington Park East Cemetery Mausoleum. The Lakeshore Family Funeral Homes, Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc location is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
