Virginia N. Charles

Virginia “Ginny” Charles passed away peacefully June 14, 2025, at IU North Hospital.

Virginia was born in Bowling Green, Kentucky, on September 2, 1928, to Curtis and Sarah Dearing. She last resided in Zionsville, Indiana. At the age of 16 in 1945, she married William F. Charles in Indianapolis, Indiana. They were happily married for 63 years before William’s passing in 2008. She worked at Fall Creek Elementary in the kitchen, and later at Carmel Care Nursing Home as a supply clerk. She loved attending church; The Foursquare Church in her early years where she taught Sunday School, and later at Lighthouse Tabernacle as a greeter. She was very outgoing, sharing her wonderful smile and the love of Jesus with all those around her. Also, she was a renowned “dumplin” maker, especially around the holidays.

She is survived by her children: William F. Charles, Jr., Judy Taylor, and Randy (Linda) Charles; grandchildren: Keith Cordell, Kyle (Cindy) Cordell, Matthew Cordell, Chris (Raven) Charles, Jessie (Valerie) Charles, Jennifer (Steve) Abby, Joshua Byers, Chelsea (Mike) Charles, and Jacob (Alexandria) Charles; as well as ten great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her daughter and son-in-law, Deanna and Donnie Cordell, siblings: Dorothy Rose, Nellie Jones, Sam Dearing, Buster Dearing, and Eldbridge Dearing, as well as multiple nieces and nephews.

Virginia was a great mom, grandma, great-grandma, friend, and mentor, and will be greatly missed.

Services for Virginia will be held at Flanner Buchanan – Carmel, 325 E. Carmel Drive, Carmel, IN, 46032, on Friday, June 20, 2025. Visitation will take place from 11am to 1pm, with a funeral service to follow at 1pm. She will be laid to rest at Floral Park Cemetery.
