Virgil Franklin

Virgil Franklin, 81, departed this life on January 19, 2024.

He was born on February 2, 1942, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Vernon and Sarah (. Ervin) Franklin.

He received his formal education from Indianapolis Elementary Public School 43 and Woods High School. He worked various jobs including being an entrepreneur. Virgil worked for GM for 36 years before retiring in 2006. Virgil was a family person who loved his family and loved going to family gatherings. Virgil loved to hang out under the tree with his friends and playing matchmaker all the time. Virgil had a special love and a remarkably close bond with his nephew Jerrett Franklin, Virgil thought of Jerrett as a son. Virgil loved his family and only wanted the best for them all, he tried his best to make things happen as this made him happy. Virgil had a love of things and would often buy things he saw on TV – grills, rotisserie grills. Virgil also loved his snacks and would often call his grandchildren to go buy him snacks –honeybuns, donut sticks to have with his coffee.

He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn; sons- Kevin, Virgil Jr., and Alonzo( Dominique) Franklin, Byron Lewis (Anah) -Daughters: Tracey Evans, Trudy Barnette, Tracy Ran, Terri Cummings, and Joia Turner. Sisters- Maxine Mitchell (Willie) Beverly Lambert (Charles) Brothers- Herchel (Lisa), Lorenzo Franklin. 15 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

Special relationships with Shawnese Goliday, Tiara Clark, Jakira Parrish, Janelle Flowers, Stacia Goliday, Kross Goliday and Jayceon Mc Christian.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers- Jerry, Alfort and Vernon Jr Franklin, sisters Carolyn Franklin and Lois McKenzie.

Homegoing services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Flanner Buchanan – Floral Park, 425 North Holt Road, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46222, with burial to follow in Floral Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
