Viola Mae Groseclose

Viola M. Groseclose, 80, Indianapolis, passed away June 20, 2014. She was born in Spencer, Indiana, January 3, 1934, the daughter of the late Charles M. Phillips and Louise Mitchell Phillips. Her mother passed away when she was two and her father remarried in 1939 to Imogene Brown Phillips (now deceased) and moved the family to Indianapolis. She was a 1952 graduate of Washington High School and soon after married Wilbur H. Groseclose and remained married until his death in 2011. As a homemaker and wife, she also worked multiple jobs over the years often times working three or more at once. When her own children were young she babysat neighborhood kids and in May at race time watched some of the Race Car Drivers children. Once her children were older, she worked as a Relator/Broker for 40+ years; security at the Indianapolis Convention Center and Nora Security; teletype at IPD; and volunteering for the Pike Township Republican Club beginning as Inspector at a Polling place to Precinct Committee woman and then to Ward Chairman. She was an avid card player and would never turn down an opportunity to play euchre or canasta with family and friends. She is survived by her children, Connie Groseclose; David Groseclose; Gail Larsen; granddaughter Amy Larsen; brother Paul G. (Shirley) Phillips; sister-in-law Elsie Phillips (Everett, deceased); and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family and friends may gather 4-8pm, Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at Washington Park North, Flanner and Buchannan Funeral Center, 2706 Kessler Blvd W Drive, Indianapolis, IN 46228. Funeral services will be held at 11am, Wednesday, June 25, 2014, with visitation beginning at 10am. Memorial contributions may be made to the Indianapolis Humane Society.
