Vadnia Caroline Phillips-Allen-Taylor, 93, of Indianapolis passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, July 2, 2016.
Vadnia was born November 13, 1922 in Trammel, VA to Ross and Nannie (Mullins) Phillips. She had four brothers (Dea Mullins, Rufus Phillips, Mac Phillips & Creed Phillips) and 3 sisters (Thelma Wray, Mollie Hensley & June Hawk) and attended Ervington High School in Nora, VA. Vadnia proudly worked as an Operator for many years at Indiana Bell Telephone Company retiring in 1978. Vadnia married the love of her life, Cecil C. Taylor in 1958. They were the proud owners of Taylor’s Market on N. Shadeland Avenue providing locally grown fruits and vegetables, flowers, pumpkins and Christmas trees to the east side of Indianapolis from 1958-1989. She and her longtime companion, Art Levi, continued to provide the same quality service through Art’s Market on East Washington Street until 2012. She was a longtime member of the Women of the Moose Chapter 11 and Pioneers of Indiana Bell. Vadnia is survived by her children Billy R. (Corrine) Allen and Carolyn (John) Ruble; six grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; eight nieces; three nephews; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Cecil, all her siblings, ex-husband Charles Allen, companion Art Levi and grandson Scott Ruble. Visitation will be Friday, July 8th from 4-8 pm at Flanner and Buchanan -Washington Park East. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 9th at Flanner and Buchanan- Washington Park East at 10am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to National Multiple Sclerosis Society or American Cancer Society. Friends are invited to leave online condolences for the family at www.flannerbuchanan.com.
