Tommy E. Moore

April 17, 1943 — November 10, 2011

Tommy Everett Moore, 68, had an iron will, a big heart, and the wicked sense of humor that lead him to read the obituaries every day "to see if I'm dead yet." Well, Daddy, you finally made it! Tom faced his first terminal illness in 1974. The doctors were wrong then and every other time they said he would die soon. It took his wheelchair falling into Lake Allatoona, Georgia on October 15th to stop his fight to prove the doctors wrong. Born April 17, 1943, Tommy was the third of five children of Roscoe "Ed" and Kathryn Moore (later Blye). He graduated from Arsenal Technical High School and entered the Army. He was wounded in Vietnam and awarded a Purple Heart. For the first few years afterwards, he worked at a variety of jobs including machine repair and bill collecting. His service injuries worsened, and he became completely disabled. Daddy was wheelchair-bound for several years before his death, which pissed him off to no end. Tom was a big man with a big heart. He married several times, including the same woman twice, because "everyone deserves a second chance". He found someone with a heart even bigger than his and married Janice Devine in 1978. He will be sorely missed by his mother, three remaining siblings, beloved wife, five children – daughters Tanja (Rick) Wilson and Teresa (Ron) Smith and stepsons Mark, Mike, and Jason Mencer – and 12 grandchildren. He "hated us all equally" – and loved us even more. Our eternal thanks to Bartow County Fire & Rescue for their unwavering efforts to recover Tommy's remains, making it possible to lay him to rest on Saturday November 19th at 1:00 pm at Washington Park East. In lieu of flowers, donations to Shriner's Hospitals for Children are suggested.
