Tom Ulsas, age 84, passed away on December 5, 2024. He was born in Indianapolis to Fred and Alda (Velona) Ulsas. He attended Holy Cross Central Catholic School, and then Cathedral High School, graduating in 1958. He then attended Purdue University, and graduated in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management in Mechanical Engineering.

His work life included being a co-founder of Anacomp, as well as time with International Harvester and Winona Memorial Hospital. He also worked for the State of Indiana as a Database Administrator, eventually retiring from there in 2001. He enjoyed his time there, including his work with the Department of Corrections, when their Database Management offices were located at the Indiana Women’s Prison.

He was even more active in retirement. His volunteer work included serving on the Boards of The Lockerbie Square Neighborhood Association, Windridge Condo Association, and the Westminster Foundation and Resident Council. He also served with the Purdue Council on Agricultural Research, Extension & Teaching (PCARET).

His passions and hobbies were numerous. He raced Triumph Spitfires locally with the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA). His claim to fame was racing at an SCCA event the same weekend as Paul Newman. He was also a master gardener, and an avid woodworker, making numerous pieces of furniture, and attending several classes at the Mark Adams School of Woodworking. After having motorcycles in his younger years, he returned to bikes later in life. His passion was always being on the lookout for the next new motorcycle to ride.

He was married to H. Joann (Glasson) Ulsas in 1969, and they enjoyed 55 wonderful years of marriage. He had two children, Chris and Matt. He is survived by Joann, Matt (Christy), as well as his two grandchildren, Lauren and Alex.
