Thomas Michael Grubb, son of Cassel and Bernice Grubb and husband of Betty Harrison Grubb, passed away on March 17, in Indianapolis.
Tom was born on October 27, 1955, in Greencastle, Indiana. After graduating from Greencastle High School, he attended DePauw University, received a BS degree from Ball State University, and an MBA from Auburn University where he became a huge SEC sports fan.
Tom had a successful professional career. He held managerial positions with Cheeseborough Ponds in Huntsville, Alabama where he discovered his love for swimming; positions with Proctor and Gamble in Baltimore; began his own independent management consulting firm, and co-authored a book with NYU Professor Robert Lamb entitled, Capitalize on Merger Chaos.
Tom loved to travel and experience different countries and cultures. He and Betty had traveled to six continents (Europe, Asia, South America, Australia/New Zealand and North America). Their collection of magnets are proudly displayed on their refrigerator. Any country that produced great wine was on his list. However, Portugal, Italy, and France were among his favorites.
Outdoor activities were high on Tom’s list. He enjoyed biking, hiking, and keeping his lawn pristine. However, his true passion was swimming! He has completed numerous open water swims including the Chesapeake Bay Swim (4.4mi) 31 times! He was a devoted member of The Aquatic Masters Team in Indianapolis.
Music was always a big part of his life: summers at Interlochen Center for the Arts, playing the violin and guitar, attending rock and classical concerts. He deeply believed that music always made life better.
Tom never met a stranger. He had a rare gift for making others smile and laugh, leaving a lasting impression on all who crossed his path.
May his memory be a blessing. He was a loving husband, a considerate brother, a humorous uncle and a great friend. He will be greatly missed.
A celebration of life memorial service will be announced at a later time. Donations to honor Tom should be made to The American Cancer Society, Interlochen Center for the Arts, or Auburn University.
