Emblem

Thomas E. Thompson was born on March 19, 1933, in Cadiz, Kentucky to parents, Benjamin and Katy Thompson. Thomas was educated through the Kadis public school system, graduating in 1952.

Thomas served his country proudly in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, from 1952 to 1956. He joined up in Ashland, Kentucky just after graduating high school. Thomas travelled the world with the Air Force, earning several accommodations, including the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Air Crew Member Badge. He was honorable discharged from Manhattan Beach Air Force Base in Brooklyn, New York as a Basic Airman. Once he was discharged from active service he served in the Reserves for an additional four years.

Thomas relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1956. He was joined in holy matrimony to his Queen-to-Be, Mary H. (Mayes) Thompson on May 28, 1957. To this blessed union they welcomed three beautiful children. Thomas and Mary were a devoted and caring couple for their family, who celebrated 64 wonderful years together. They were a match made in heaven.

Thomas started with Allison Gas Turbine (Allison Transmission/Allison Engine) in 1962, spending over 30 years there before his retirement. He worked as a machinist, and was recognized several times, receiving many awards from the company as well as the United Auto Workers Union.

Thomas truly honored the Lord and accepted Christ at an early age. In 1964 he became a member of New Light Missionary Baptist Church in Indianapolis, Indiana. Thomas was the first church bus driver and was on the usher board for 48 years. He was a faithful member of the congregation for over 60 years.

Thomas loved to work on small engines, RV camping, bowling, and travel. He also loved playing card games with his family. Thomas thrived on equal opportunities for all, including his friends and family. He was kind and honest, and above all, made sure all were treated fairly. He was a devoted husband, an excellent father, and a friend until the end to all who knew him.

Thomas E. Thompson will be dearly missed by all those he loved, and all those who loved him in return. He departed this life on December 9, 2024, at the age of 91 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife.

He is survived by his three children: Amos Thompson, Tony Thompson, and Barbara Griggs; four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one sibling, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family and friends; all of whom he dearly treasured.
