Thomas A. Noesges

December 25, 1931 — April 30, 2025

Carmel, Indiana

Thomas “Tommy” Noesges, age 93, of Carmel, IN, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2025.

Tom was born in Michigan City, Indiana, to Philip and Lorraine Noesges. He met and married Kathleen Gilson in Ft Smith, Arkansas while serving in the Army. They eventually moved to Hobart, Indiana where he resided until moving to Carmel, Indiana to be closer to his two children. Surviving family includes son, David Noesges (Mimi) of Carmel, daughter, Paula Noesges (Judy Carlile) of Indianapolis; two granddaughters, Elizabeth of Carmel and Christa Raymond (David) of Boston; a great grandson, Julian; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Anne Dobbs, and wife, Kathleen of 50 years.

Tom was a proud graduate of Loras College and Valparaiso University. He began his teaching career at Hobart Junior High but spent the majority of his years teaching US History at Chesterton High School where he retired in 1994. While teaching, Tom spent the summers in the steel mills of Gary, managing the Hobart Swimming pool and running the softball field concession stand.

An avid sports fan, Tom gave his all to his beloved White Sox, Chicago Bears, Valparaiso Crusaders, and Hobart Brickies. He spent countless hours hitting groundballs on Wilson Street, backhands on the tennis courts and jump shots on the backyard court with David and Paula.

Tom, a historian at heart, loved to share a story, usually centered around the antics of his youth or his children’s accomplishments. For Tom, the joy of telling a story of yesteryear could only be topped by the resounding call of “Grandpa” when perhaps he might start exaggerating.

A funeral mass will be 10:00 a.m. (EST) Monday, May 5, 2025, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, 14598 Oak Ridge Road, Carmel.  Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at the church.
