Thomas Lewis Lamb was born on June 27, 1939 in Goshen, Indiana to Floyd and Agnes (Grise) Lamb. He graduated from St. Meinrad High School in 1957 and spent five more years studying with the Passionists before leaving the seminary. Since his college deferment was up, he joined the Indiana National Guard and trained in Puerto Rico.
He married Carol Louise Sherwood on June 5, 1965 in Goshen. Thomas finished his B.A. degree majoring in Psychology and Philosophy at Goshen College. They moved to Indianapolis where Thomas earned a Masters in Social Work from Indiana University. He was an Assistant Professor and clinician at Riley Child Guidance Clinic. At this time, Thomas developed an interest in the Indianapolis 500 race which he attended for nearly 40 years. He completed an intense four-week post graduate program at the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland. Thomas worked as a psychotherapist in Kokomo for 20 years helping patients from Chrysler and Delco Electronics.
He enjoyed listening to classical music and attending the Indianapolis Symphony. He also completed a graduate degree in theology from Loyola University of New Orleans in 1997.
At every parish he attended, he facilitated a weekly scripture discussion group. He started a Eucharistic Adoration group in Kokomo. He enlisted his Bible scholar professor Father Conrad Lewis to lead a yearly weekend Scripture retreat and also a Sunday afternoon talk for 15 years at Fatima Retreat House in Indianapolis. He was a lector at his parish. He introduced many people to the book God Calling and read it every day.
He recorded an audiotape How to Quit Smoking and held numerous workshops on smoking cessation. He also recorded an audiotape Relaxation Without Addiction. Thomas recorded and marketed a Relaxation CD. He also published and marketed a collection of 200 Bible verses where God says Do Not Worry, Do Not Be Anxious, Do Not Be Afraid.
Thomas retired after 40 years of counseling people. He spent some of his retirement crafting wood projects like custom furniture, fireplaces, and even a treasure chest for each of the grandkids. He built a screened-in porch and his own workshop in the backyard.
His children are Melissa Brown (Rex) St. John, David (Patti) Lamb, Aaron Lamb, and Rachel Lamb. Grandchildren are Austin, Madelynn and Payton Brown, Henry and Margaret Lamb, Patrick, Rebecca, and Kristen Lamb, and Sophia Lamb. His sister Marge McCahill, granddaughter Madelynn Brown, daughter-in-law Teresa, and former son-in-law David Brown preceded him in death. His brother Michael survives.
He passed away peacefully due to his 30-year battle with Parkinson’s disease on February 5, 2026. He leaves behind a family and friends who loved him dearly and will miss him always.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to Little Sisters of the Poor, or Parkinson's Foundation, and Saint Meinrad Archabbey.
