Thomas Hanley Kerr, 82, of Muncie, Indiana, passed from this life on December 24, 2025. Born February 2, 1943, in Fairmont, West Virginia, he was the son of William Hugh Kerr and Mildred Lucille (Hanley) Kerr. Raised among the hills and hardworking people of his native West Virginia, he carried with him the values of faith, family, service, and perseverance instilled by his parents, grandparents, and the many educators and mentors who shaped his life.
A graduate of West Virginia University and a Distinguished Military Student in ROTC, Tom began a lifelong commitment to service when he was commissioned into the U.S. Army. He served with honor during the Vietnam War, earning multiple commendations. After active duty, he continued his military career in the U.S. Army Reserve, where he was promoted to Major and ultimately retired in 1994.
Following his military service, Tom embraced a second calling as a minister in the Church of God (Anderson), serving congregations in Sheridan, Lebanon, Noblesville, Bloomington, Muncie, and New Castle. Known for his compassion, steadfast faith, and devotion to uplifting others, he touched countless lives through his pastoral work.
Tom is remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather who cherished faith and family. He is survived by his loving wife of many happy years, Nancy Lee McKinley Kerr; as well as sons Andrew (Maddie) Kerr and Adam Kerr; grandchildren Elizabeth, Benjamin, Callum, and Madison Kerr; and beloved mothers of his grandchildren, Jill Ann Lauer and Michell Marks Kerr.
His legacy endures in the lives he shaped, the communities he served, the singing and the joy he brought to those he knew, and the faith he carried with unwavering conviction. He was preceded in death by his parents, William “Bill” and Mildred “Millie” Kerr, and by his eldest son, Brian David Kerr, whose golden voice Tom cherished and held close to his heart to the very end of his days.
