Thomas Hutzler, of Brownsburg Indiana, died on October 2, 2026 at the age of 95.
He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio to John E. Hutzler and Virginia Hatchett Hutzler on May 26, 1931. As a young child, he and his family moved to Barren County, Kentucky where he lived on a farm with his parents and sister. He graduated from Horse Cave High School and was active in the ROTC program which assisted in financing his education at University of Kentucky.
He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering in 1954. He was then commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force to serve as an Installations Engineering Officer at Foster Air Force Base in Victoria, Texas. It was there that he met his future bride, Rose Marie Holy, and married her on February 4, 1956.
Tom worked for the New York Central Railroad as a track surveyor and division engineer for 11 years before taking a position in Indianapolis, Indiana as a consulting engineer with Clyde E. Williams and Associates in 1967. He was certified as a professional engineer in Illinois, Ohio, and Indiana.
Tom and Rose Marie enjoyed 68 years of marriage before Rose died in December of 2024. They raised four children and were faithful members of Speedway Methodist Church for over 50 years. Tom had a love for music and enjoyed playing his piano and playing cards with friends and family.
He is survived by four children and their spouses: Jean and Kevin Short of Noblesville, Indiana, John and Sandy Hutzler of Babcock Ranch, Florida, Pamela and Ron Prusinski of Westfield, Indiana, and Patricia and Tom Thornley of West Chester, Ohio. Tom is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
A private memorial service for family is planned to take place in November. Entombment will occur at West Ridge Park Cemetery.
