Indianapolis, Indiana

Thomas “Tom” Keith Ferguson, age 81 of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on Sunday evening, May 19, 2024.

Tom was born on October 3, 1942 in Lawrence, Kansas, a son of Cecil and Aldeen (Burgess) Ferguson. He is preceded in death by his parents. He is also preceded in death by his brother Burgess.

He married Donna Krachenfels on September 5, 1969.  He is survived by his wife of 54 years Donna Ferguson of Indianapolis, Indiana.

He is also survived by two children: son David (Gayle) Ferguson of Indianapolis, Indiana and daughter Barbara Ferguson of Indianapolis, Indiana.

Grandchildren: Ashley Ferguson, Paige St. Laurent, Conner Ferguson and Skyler Ferguson.

Tom was born in Lawrence, Kansas and grew up in Westmoreland, Kansas.  He graduated from West Moreland, Kansas high school in the class of 1960.  Right after high school, Tom joined the United States Army.

He served two tours of duty in Vietnam.  He was awarded two Purple Hearts from his time in the military.  He did not wear his purple hearts on his uniforms because he said "you get wounded if you are stupid, and you shouldn't be awarded for stupidity."

While in the Army, Tom was stationed in Germany where Barbara and David were both born.  He and his family were there for 6 years.

When he retired from the Army, he moved to Indianapolis.  The family settled in Cumberland, Indiana around 1982.

He greatly enjoyed reading, history, fishing, watching sports (anything with a ball), telling jokes, especially his own bad jokes, watching Jeopardy, a good drink, doing yard work and any other job that needed to be done.  His great sense of humor will fondly be remembered.

Tom was known for his appreciation of whiskey.  He loved Jack Daniels, but always aid to buy him Evan Williams because after a few drinks you can't tell the difference anyways.  Ever year at Christmas, birthdays, or Father's day, his bottles were replenished.

Tom was a great man.  He loved his country, his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.   He was a great provider and he made sure his family was taken care of and they never went without.  He will be greatly missed.   So many fond memories of Tom will be cherished by many.
