Thomas Barry Breiner, 62, passed away Friday, December 15, 2017 at St. Vincent’s Hospice in Indianapolis following a brief illness.
Tom was born on April 25, 1955 in Washington, D.C. and was raised in Thornton, Illinois, the son of Richard and Jeanette (Edgell) Breiner. He graduated from Mendel Catholic Prep High School in Chicago in 1973. He attended Villanova University and earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1977.
Tom married Laurie Capozello on September 23, 1978 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Reading, Pennsylvania. Together, they had three children.
Tom worked in the insurance industry his entire professional career, working for Chubb for more than 25 years. Most recently Tom worked as a Senior Vice President at Hays Companies in Indianapolis. Tom was also active in the community, serving on the board of directors of Chosen Ministries Corporation, which assists impoverished single parents.
Tom had a life-long passion for athletics and was an avid supporter of Villanova Wildcats basketball, as well as his Chicago hometown professional teams. He enjoyed golfing, boating, fishing, and spending time with family.
Tom is survived by Laurie, his wife of 39 years; his daughter, Katherine Krystosek and her husband Samuel of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; two sons, Eric Breiner and his wife Kelli of Carmel, and Gregory Breiner of Los Angeles, California. Tom is also survived by two grandchildren, Emily and Abigail Krystosek.
Visitation will be at Flanner Buchannan-Carmel on Thursday, December 21 from 4 to 8 p.m. Tom requested that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at Saint Maria Goretti Catholic Church in Westfield on Friday, December 22, 2017 at 11 a.m. with a private burial.
