Thomas Baker Hunter

February 24, 2004 — July 16, 2023

Carmel, Indiana

Thomas Baker Hunter, beloved son of Matthew and Laura (Baker) Hunter of Carmel, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, July 16, following an accident. Thomas was loved by everyone who was lucky enough to be in his circle of caring support – his teachers, aides, caregivers, doctors, neighbors, church community, and family – most especially his parents and his sisters, Martha and Charlotte.

Through organ donation, Thomas has given the gift of life to people who will never know him.

Affectionately nicknamed “T,” Thomas enriched the lives of those who loved him and taught everyone lessons in patience, being present, and fully committing to the things you love. For Thomas, this meant reading books over and over again, enjoying his favorite meals, trips to the library, bike rides with his dad, group hugs and kisses, keeping things organized, and making everyone laugh with his love of silly rhymes and wordplay. He was the center of his family’s universe.

In addition to his parents and sisters, Thomas was deeply loved for all of his 19 years by his Grandma Mary (Eldredge) Baker; his grandparents Stephen and Betsy Hunter; his aunts and uncles Lynn (Hunter) Horton and Sherman Horton, Amy Hunter, Sara (Baker) and Charles Haley, Douglas and Anne Baker, and Pete Russel; and his cousins Bradford, Walker, Hayley, Luna, and Anna. He was predeceased by his adoring grandfather, Lt. Colonel David Thomas Baker.

A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, July 20, at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 100 W. 86th St., Indianapolis, IN 46260 (2:30-4:00 p.m. visitation; 4:00 p.m. memorial service).

In lieu of flowers, gifts in Thomas’ memory may be made to St. Luke’s UMC to enhance the special education room that he inspired. stlukesumc.com/thomashunter
