Theresa Jane "Janie" Stevens

October 18, 1952 — April 27, 2024

Indianapolis, IN

Theresa Jane “Janie” Stevens, 71, of Indianapolis, was called home on April 27, 2024. She was born October 18, 1952, to the late Harry and Helen Stevens.

Janie’s favorite activities included spending time with her family and close friends. Her family was her world; her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren felt her love immensely.

After graduating from George Washington High School in 1971, she spent many years in customer service. While she retired from Babies R’ Us, that never spoke to just how intelligent she was. Janie was excellent with numbers and spent her time after retirement overseeing accounting for her daughter’s business.

Janie also loved to travel. In recent years she traveled to beautiful places such as Niagara Falls, Canada, Las Vegas, Florida, and Tennessee. When Janie was not traveling, she liked to spend her time solving crossword puzzles or playing Monopoly online with family. She was the sweetest person anyone could ever want to meet. Always willing to lend a helping hand or offer kind words, as well as words of wisdom. She was a gentle, loving woman.

Janie is survived by her significant other, Jimmie Lee Smith, with whom she spent 55 loving years; her children, James (Michael) Stevens, Angela (Anji) Olive (David), Nikila Stevens, and Jimmie D. Smith, many loving grand and great grandchildren; her siblings, James (Jim) Stevens and Debbie (Debra) Parrish (Al); and a host of nieces, nephews, and other cherished family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her granddaughter Jessica Earl.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 8, from 10 am to 12 noon, with a service to follow. This will be located at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park North, 2702 Kessler Blvd W Drive.

Janie’s final resting place will be at Washington Park North Cemetery.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”  John 3:16
