Theodore William Herman Alt passed away peacefully on September 4th, 2026. Born in 1932, to George and Martha Alt in Brooklyn, New York, Theodore moved with his family to Long Island a few years later. "Known to family and friends as Ted, he had an older brother, George Jr."
In 1950, Theodore enlisted in the United States Navy and served honorably during the Korean War. His work in electronics during his enlistment marked the beginning of his career in the field.
After completing his Navy service, Ted earned a degree in electrical engineering from the Indiana Institute of Technology in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He worked in the field throughout his career and retired in 1987.
Theodore and Esther married in 1960 and shared 63 years together before her passing in November 2023.
Theodore is survived by his sons, Michael (Chris) and Stephen (Julie); his grandchildren, Shaun, Gregory, Megan (Tyler), and Shane; and his great-granddaughter Riley.
Theodore loved road trips throughout the United States. With his wife and children, he drove to every state accessible by car.
He loved building and repairing things, including homes, garages, and especially cars. He could dismantle a car, fix it, and put it back together-- and, to his family, it seemed he could fix anything. Neighborhood children knew him as the bicycle repair king because everyone brought their bikes to Ted.
Rest In Peace
