Theodora Dickos

March 1, 1922 — June 14, 2011

Theodora Dickos 89, of Indianapolis, passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2011. She was born on March 1, 1922 in Haverhill, Massachusetts, the only child of Naoum and Alexandra Theoharous. She is survived by her adoring husband, Milton J. Dickos and her two beloved children, Dr. Dennis K. Dickos and Theone A. Dickos, both of Carmel, IN. Theodora graduated from Haverhill High School and upon her graduation from Boston's Bryant Stratton Business School, became the head of the Accounts Receivable Department at RH Stearns, one of the largest department stores in the Boston area at that time. She continued at Stearns until she met the love of her life, her husband of 62 years, Milton. They began their life and family together in Peru, IN and soon moved to nearby Wabash where Milton partnered with his brother, Chris, to form M C Dickos Realty and Theodora devoted herself to her family, church, friends, and countless volunteer activities. She involved herself in the public schools, contributing her time and skills to the elementary level reading program. She served as president of the Wabash Chapter of Kappa Delta Phi Sorority and transferred her love of cooking to serve in the Meals on Wheels program. Theodora always found time to serve in Philoptochos Society service projects, the charitable arm (meaning "Friends of the Poor") of the Greek Orthodox Church. In 1986, Milton and Theodora relocated to Indianapolis to be closer to their children, their church, and many friends. Theodora's personal interests centered on the arts—she was an accomplished pianist and artist and she enjoyed greatly watching live theater, Broadway musicals, and movie classics of the 30's, 40's and 50's. She linked those interests by focusing much of her personal artwork on the depiction of famous movie stars and movie scenes of those days. Most of all, Theodora will be remembered as a devoted daughter, wife and mother, as a loyal, quick-witted, talented friend, and as a dedicated member of her church and Orthodox Christian Faith. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church or the Ladies Philoptochos Society, both at 3500 W. 106th Street, Carmel, IN 46032. Visitation will be on Thursday, June 16, 2011 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 3500 W. 106th Street, Carmel, IN 46032. A Trisagion service will be held at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the church Friday, June 17th at 11 a.m., with calling from 10 a.m. until time of service. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, 9700 Allisonville Road. Friends are invited to leave online condolences for the family at: www.flannerbuchanan.com.
