Terry “JJ” Nickel, 75, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on September 12, 2023. He was born on September 14, 1947, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to parents, Walter W. Nickel and Neva K. (Stoner) Nickel.
Terry served our country honorably from 1967 to 1969 in the Army during the Vietnam War. During his service in the Army, he was awarded multiple commendations and medals, including 5 Star Bronze Service Stars, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal. He was then transferred to the Army Reserves until he was honorably discharged in 1973.
“JJ” was always a loving and extremely caring individual who put others first, especially his family and friends. If you ever needed him, “JJ” was there in a moment’s notice. He truly loved and treasured everyone he had in his life.
Terry is survived by his brother, Phillip (Helena) Nickel; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and many beloved friends that he called family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Neva Nickel.
Visitation for Terry will be from 1-3pm on Monday, September 18, 2023, at Flanner Buchanan – Oaklawn Memorial Gardens - Good Shepherd Chapel (9700 Allisonville Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46250), with a funeral service immediately following at 3pm. Burial with military honors will take place at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
