Terrell “Terri” Sue Camhi, age 84, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, formerly of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 28, 2026.
Born to Raymond and Ethel Huffer of Frankfort, Indiana, Terri was the youngest of five daughters. She graduated from Butler University in Indianapolis and dedicated much of her professional life to the medical field. Throughout her career, she served as an office manager and worked closely with patients, where her kindness, compassion, and genuine concern for others left a lasting impression.
Terri embraced the Jewish faith through her marriage to her beloved husband, Sidney Albert Camhi, and remained a devoted and active member of her synagogue throughout her life. Her faith was a source of strength and an important part of who she was.
Terri lived life with enthusiasm and gratitude. She was an avid sports fan who enjoyed cheering on her favorite teams and looked forward to her trips to Las Vegas. One of her greatest passions was growing orchids, a hobby she and Sidney shared for many years. Together they lovingly cultivated beautiful orchids and treasured the friendships they made through their shared interest. She also had a lifelong love of dogs and was rarely without a faithful companion, including poodles, Yorkies, and poodle mixes.
In 2024, Terri moved to Chattanooga to be closer to family, making her home with her nephew, Tony Avitabile, and his wife, Shelly. She later moved into an independent living community, where she quickly embraced her new home, formed many lasting friendships, and became an active ambassador, warmly welcoming new residents and helping them feel at home. She remained active with her family and friends and found great joy in staying connected with those she loved.
Terri will be remembered for her gentle spirit, generous heart, warm smile, and unwavering kindness. She had a remarkable gift for making others feel welcomed, valued, and loved. Although she had no children of her own, she leaves behind a beautiful legacy of faith, compassion, friendship, and family that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
She is survived by her devoted nephew, Tony Avitabile (Shelly), along with several other loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Sidney Albert Camhi; her parents, Raymond and Ethel Huffer; and her four sisters, Irene Charles, Lorene Tompkins, Mary Katherine Avitabile, and Maxine Street.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Etz Chaim Cemetery in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Her warmth, kindness, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
