Ted R. Whitmoyer
89, passed away in Riverview Hospital on April 27, 2013. Ted was born on March 23, 1924 in Noblesville, Indiana, the son of Monroe and Halcie (Cammack) Whitmoyer. He grew up on the family farm just East of Westfield and graduated from Westfield High School in 1942. Following graduation he joined the U.S. Army and served with the 45th Thunderbird and 103rd Cactus Field Artillery Divisions as Allied troops fought their way through France and Germany during World War II. After his discharge in 1945, Ted went to Arizona, and graduated from the University of Arizona in 1949.
Ted became a highly skilled craftsman and carpenter and was a self-employed home and business contractor in the Indianapolis Metro area during his working career. On February 8, 1963, Ted married Ruby Likens from Anderson, IN and the two lived at his Westfield homestead. Upon retirement in 1986, they moved to Seminole, Florida. Ted and Ruby were very active members of the First Church of the Nazarene in Pinellas Park, Florida, worshiping and serving in various positions over their retirement years. Ted was a 67 year member of the Westfield American Legion Post #318 and had served as the Post Commander during his time with the Post. Ted returned in 2008 and lived in the AE Sanders Glen retirement community in Westfield, IN and enjoyed his time there very much.
Ted was a loving and caring individual and was always there to lend a helping hand when any help was needed. Ted was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Whitmoyer and his brother, Joseph Whitmoyer. He is survived by a loving family, brother Robert (Helen) Whitmoyer, and nephews-Joseph Jr. (Sue) Whitmoyer, David (Jeane) Whitmoyer, Nieces Joyce (Tony) Skiba, Pamela (Frank) Stoudt, Donna (Ronald) Snyder, and Beverly (Michael) Stidham along with several grand and great grand nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at Flanner and Buchanan-Hamilton, 4180 Westfield Rd. from 11 am till the service at 1 pm. Entombment will follow at Hamilton Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Fallen Hoosier Heroes Memorial, P.O. Box 11, West Newton, IN 46183.
