Ted J. Fisher, a cherished educator, dedicated coach, and loving family man, transcended this earthly realm on September 26, 2025, in Greenwood, Indiana, passing peacefully at the age of 77. Born on October 29, 1947, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Ted's life was a testament to a spirit of adventure and an unwavering commitment to nurturing the potential of others.
For nearly four decades, Ted served as a teacher and cross country and track and field coach at Decatur Central High School, a vocation to which he brought both passion and profound dedication from 1970 until 2007. He left an indelible mark on the lives of countless students and faculty members, embodying the virtues of mentorship and encouragement. His influence extended beyond the halls of his school and into the broader Indiana High School Athletic Community, where he was known for his unwavering support and care for young athletes.
In addition to his work in education and athletics, Ted was an active member of the High School Road Church of Christ. His love for music resonated deeply within him, and he found joy in leading songs and hymns during worship services. This passion for melody was reflected in the harmonious bonds he shared with his beloved wife, Brenda, and his daughters, who would often join together in song for special occasions. With a tenor voice that soared and a baritone that added richness to the harmony, he left a legacy of music that enriched the lives around him.
Ted was not only a remarkable professional but also a devoted family man. As a husband, father, and grandfather, he filled the lives of those he loved with warmth and affection. He was one of a kind, a trailblazer in every sense, whose adventurous spirit remained vibrant even in the face of life's challenges. Following the passing of his beloved wife Brenda Fisher, Ted found companionship and joy once more with Mary Anne Greeley. Their eighteen years together were marked by shared adventures and deep care for one another, illustrating once more his capacity for love and connection.
Ted is survived by his three cherished daughters: Kimberly Letko and her husband James Letko, Jamison Edwards and her husband James Kristopher Edwards, and Kathryn Fisher and her husband William Johnson. He also leaves behind treasured grandchildren: Aaron Letko, Winry Johnson, and Desmond Edwards, who will carry forward his legacy of kindness, laughter, and song. Ted's adventures on Earth may have concluded, but we are comforted by the vision of him now blazing trails in heaven, radiating love and devotion to our Heavenly Father.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Ted's life during the viewings on October 10 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and again on October 11 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, to be held at Flanner Buchanan - Speedway, located at 2950 North High School Road, Indianapolis, IN. A funeral service will follow on October 11 at 11:00 AM, leading to a graveside service at Maple Hill Cemetery, Plainfield, IN at 12:00 PM. His life, like a well-tuned choir, will forever resonate in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know him.
