Sylvia S. Ragan, 77, precious wife of Ron Ragan, went to Heaven to be with her Lord on Saturday, October 18, 2014 after some time of declining health – her body could not endure the constant battle of daily activity. She was born November 7, 1936 in Charlotte, North Carolina to the late Roy and Rachel Ross Sykes.
She was a majorette in high school, and attended Presbyterian College. That's where she met Ron. They were quickly married, and the rest is history.
Sylvia was the kindest person her husband has ever known, and will be in his heart forever. Her 4 children were the bedrock of her foundation from babies to mature adults. She was also close to her grandchildren, and responsive to their needs with compassion and love. Don't think for one second that she was a pushover…mess with her kids, and she was ready to fight. She loved playing the piano and having family sing-a-longs and little talent shows.
Sylvia was President of R & W Painting, the family business. She enjoyed keeping busy in her home and yard, growing beautiful flowers and working with her hands. Sylvia was a huge Elvis fan, and she was able to attend his final concert at Market Square Arena. Many enjoyable hours were spent at home and in the library reading about history, especially her Southern Heritage. She was proud that her grandfather was a decorated hero in the Civil War.
From Ron, her beloved and grieving husband of 58 years, "Rest in peace, my love. I will happily be with you when the Lord calls me to be by your side."
In addition to her husband, Sylvia's family includes her children Ron Ragan, Jr., Rhonda (Ralph) Narmore, Lynda (Rick) Marcum, and Lori (Vince) McClurg; grandchildren Jennifer (Josh) Davenport, Amy (Joe) White, Stephen Little, the late Sherrie Ragan, and Ragan (Gus) Wilson; great-grandchildren Natalie and Kenny Crist, Brady White, Kayln Ragan, and Riley Wilson; and sister Lynda (Butch) Bennett.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lupus Foundation of America.
