Susan Lee (Martin) Javorsky

Aug 1, 1950 — Aug 17, 2026

Susan Lee (Martin) Javorsky, age 76 of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of August 17th, 2026 at her home after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born in Burlington, Iowa, on August 1st, 1950 to Dorothy Anna (Simonson) Martin and Thornton Leon Martin and raised in Stronghurst, Illinois. She grew up in a big family of six siblings—-three girls, three boys. Lynne Anne was the oldest. Michael Leon came next. After Susan came Yale Arden, Rebecca Lou, and Rex Alan.

The Martin family moved to Chillicothe, Illinois in 1967, just before Susan’s senior year of high school. She graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1968. In 1970, she gave birth to her first son, Aaron Lee (Martin) Javorsky.

In the early 1970s, as a single mother, Susan worked tirelessly to provide for her young son. In 1973 she found a life-long career with the AT&SF Railway and soon after, she found a life-long husband, Frank John Javorsky Jr. Because Susan and Frank were both employed by the railroad, the ensuing decades brought several moves. First they moved from Chillicothe to Fort Madison, Iowa, where they welcomed a second son, Eric Matthew, in 1986. Another move came in 1989, this time to Kansas City, Missouri where they lived until their much-anticipated retirement from the BNSF Railway in 2010.

As a result of her 36 year career with the Santa Fe, Susan developed a particular set of skills, including bookkeeping, communication, and research, which served her well in both her professional and private life. She could almost always be found sitting at her precious laptop, satisfying her inquisitive nature or deep in research on behalf of her friends and family. She loved genealogy and through her work even found a family connection going all the way back to William Brewster, one of the original pilgrims from the Mayflower.

After their retirement, Susan and Frank moved to Indianapolis to be closer to her siblings. During those years, they enjoyed traveling all across the USA, exploring the beauty and wonder of the country. Susan always said her favorite destination was Glacier National Park, where they actually spent a few nights in a repurposed caboose and locomotive.

Susan is survived by her devoted husband of 49+ years, Frank, her sons Aaron and Eric, of Kansas City, her siblings Yale (Carol) Martin, Becky Kevoian, both of Indianapolis and Rex (Margreth) Martin of Ennenda, Switzerland

She is preceded in death by her mother and father, her big brother Mike, her beloved special sister Lynne Anne, and her brother-in-law Bob.

Friends and family are welcome to gather on Friday, August 21, from 4pm-8pm at Flanner and Buchanan Geist. There will be an opportunity to share memories at approximately 6pm.
