Susan Kay Durfee

Susan K. Durfee was born October 11, l942, in Atlanta, GA, to the late S. Donald and Ruth L. Durfee. Sue passed from this world on May 8, 2011. Sue graduated from Carmel High School and attended Indiana University. Joining the Indianapolis Police Department after college, Sue was a police officer for over 20 years. Early in her career with IPD she began working with computers and computer technology when it was first being implemented. She learned many programming languages and helped IPD establish and improve their modern technology. She also taught computer skills to fellow officers. Sue retired from the police department but continued in the same job for many more years as a civilian. As a retiree, Sue became a miniature enthusiast. She was a long time contributor, board member and volunteer at the Museum of Miniature Houses in Carmel, IN. She loved both the making of miniature scenes and her enjoyable interactions with the varied personalities she discovered in the world of miniatures. Her creativity did not only apply to this. She was artistic in her cooking, her cake decorating and her household decor. And family members could always identify gifts given by Sue from their elaborate and beautiful wrappings. Her family lovingly remembers Sue for her wit, her generous spirit, her intelligence and her quirky pets. She is survived by three sisters: Sally Klingerman, Donna Augenbergs (Karl) and Leslie Archer (Dave). Also, five nieces, three nephews, and eight great nieces and nephews will miss her presence. Only family members will attend the service of remembrance. Interment will be at Washington Park North. Memorial contributions may be sent to: Museum of Miniature Houses, 111 E.
