Remembering the Life of

Sulla Mae Cummings

1941-2025

Sulla Mae (affectionately known as Sue Mae to family and friends) entered eternal rest with our Lord and Savior on May 22, 2025. She was born September 12, 1941, in Talucah, Alabama to Horace Watkins and Annie Draper Watkins.

Sue Mae attended Berkeley Elementary and Intermediate schools before moving to

Indianapolis, Indiana where she graduated from Crispus Attucks High School in 1959. She also had some college and medical technician training.

Sue Mae began her career at Indiana University Methodist Hospital. She eventually moved to Saint Francis Hospital where she retired after 30 years of service as a Surgical Technician. She loved her work and was immensely proud of her accomplishments.

Sue Mae married Charles Andrew Cummings on February 11, 1967. From this union, three children were born: Dwight Anthony, Sonya Denise, and Jennifer Lynn.

She professed her love of Christ at an early age. She was a founding member of Living Word Baptist Church. She enjoyed her time serving in different ministries through the years. She also enjoyed crocheting, reading her bible, spoiling her grandchildren…and lately, coloring in her Christian coloring books while listening to gospel music. Sue Mae loved her family. She always looked forward to taking road trips to Huntsville, Alabama to spend time with them.

Sue Mae is preceded in death by her parents, Horace, and Annie Watkins; two children, Dwight Anthony Cummings, and Jennifer Lynn Cummings; and her siblings, Horace Watkins, Jr., Martha Lee Watkins Lewis, James Earl Watkins, and a loving aunt, True Love Henderson. To cherish her love and legacy, she leaves her daughter, Sonya Denise Tucker (Donnell); grandchildren, Josh, Jeanae, Kaya, Devon, and Kyndall; siblings, Ethelene Watkins Crimes, Roosevelt Watkins, Leroy Watkins, William Watkins, and Robert Watkins; and a host of nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.
