Sue Schmink

January 4, 1923 — July 4, 2013

Iola Sue Schmink passed into the Lord's loving arms on July 4, 2013. Born to Guy Culver and Ida Isabelle Rosenbaum in Campbellsburg, Indiana on January 4, 1923, Sue was the youngest of seven children. She moved to Indianapolis in the early 1940's to attend Indiana Business College. It was in Indianapolis at the Indiana Roof Ballroom that she was asked to dance one evening by a young Navy sailor who wasted no time in proposing marriage, and before shipping out for duty became her husband and remained so for almost 60 years until his passing in 2009. Sue dedicated her life to her family, raising three children and modeling for them a deep foundation of faith, the tremendous joy gained from loving someone for a lifetime, and strength that was at its best when things were at their worst. Sue is survived by her daughters, Patti Parsons (Bill) of Ormond Beach, FL and Merilee Klootwyk (Tom) of Carmel, IN, grandson Jim Parsons (Carrie) of New York City, granddaughters Kelly Kwiatek (Jarrett) of Daytona Beach, FL., and Lauren, Katie and Lily Klootwyk of Carmel, and four great-grandchildren, Abby, Matt and Ryan Parsons and Gavin Kwiatek. Sue was predeceased by her husband, James Donald Schmink, and her son, Steven James Schmink. With Sue's passing comes the end of a generation for a large and loving family rooted in southern Indiana. In accordance with her wishes, they will gather privately to celebrate her life and share their memories of this remarkable era in a family. Memorial gifts may be made to Riley Hospital for Children or Children's of Alabama Hospital through the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals at https://donations.childrensmiraclenetworkhospitals.org. Arrangements have been entrusted to Flanner and Buchanan- Washington Park East, where condolences may be shared at www.flannerbuchanan.com.
