Steven D. Crooks

Steven DeLoss Crooks, 76, of Fortville, Indiana, passed away on April 20, 2023. He was born on March 15, 1947, in Garrett, Indiana, to parents, DeLoss and Evelyn (Mercer) Crooks.

On April 23, 1967, Steven married the love of his life, Joan (Dygert) Crooks, and they shared a loving 56 years happily together. She survives.

He served our country honorably in the Army from 1967-1971. His tours of duty were in Ankara and Istanbul Turkey then lastly in Korea. He was last stationed at Fort Devens in Massachusetts. In his spare time, Steven loved to go golfing, working in the yard with the landscaping, and loved his Indiana Hoosiers basketball team!

Steve and Joan purchased Frosty Boy Drive-In in 1999. Steve ran Frosty Boy for 2 years until he opened Café 52. He ran Café 52 for 11 years until he retired. Frosty Boy is still owned by Joan, Tim and Cindy and run by his son, Tim.

Steven is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Joan Crooks; children, Tim (Cindy) Crooks and Steven “James” (Kim) Crooks; grandchildren, Brittany Turner, Cortney Crooks, Ashley Burks, and Gage Crooks; great-grandchildren, Kayden Turner, Carter Turner, Caleb Turner, Layla Turner, and Noah Burks; siblings, Patricia Ladd and Dennis Crooks; and many other friends and family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, DeLoss and Evelyn Crooks; and brother, Leroy Crooks.

Visitation for Steven will be from 10am-12pm on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East – 10722 E. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN 46229, with a funeral service with military honors immediately following at 12pm.
