Steven A. Layman

Steven A. Layman, 63, Indianapolis, passed away February 28, 2013. He was born November 11, 1949, in Niles, Michigan to Michel and Nannie (Powers) Layman. Steve served in the U.S. Army. He enjoyed collecting Mustangs, restoring cars, and racing. He also enjoyed league bowling. Steve was a talented welder/fabricator and worked for Herman and Co., followed by Indiana Fan, a division of Horner Electric. He helped fabricate sculptures that currently stand on the campus of the University of Indianapolis and Kiwanis International at I-465 and Michigan Road, and the Minnetrista Cultural Center in Muncie. He was preceded in death by his parents. Steve is survived by his sisters, Florence DeVore (Wes), Eilene Coomer (James), Catherine Smock, Paula Campbell (Thomas), and Annette Mandrell (Kevin), and a host of nephews and nieces. A celebration of Steve's life was held on Monday, March 4, at 4 PM at The Caring Place (formerly Calvary Temple). Cremation will be accorded. Memorial gifts may be made to Caring Place Reach, PO Box 17895, Indianapolis, IN 46217. Arrangements have been entrusted to Flanner and Buchanan- Washington Park East.
