Stephen George Thomas, age 72, passed away on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at Franciscan Health Medical Center in Indianapolis, after a courageous battle with complications related to Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
Stevie, as he was affectionately known, is survived by his beloved children: son Stephen C. Thomas, daughter Melissa (Matthew) Wood, step-sons Gary (Jesse) and Kevin (Kara) Ringham, and step-daughter Brandi Kidman. He was a proud grandfather to 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and cherished friends. Among them, he shared a particularly close bond with his niece and lifelong fishing companion, Marlene Brown.
Born on January 23, 1953, in Indianapolis, Steve was the son of Herbert G. Thomas and Patricia E. Thomas (née Kelly). He grew up on the east side of the city and attended Arsenal Technical High School. A man of faith, Steve was raised Catholic and carried those values with him throughout his life.
Steve dedicated over 36 years of his life as a hardworking and loyal truck driver for Quality Wholesale Tire Company. His dedication to his job was only matched by his ability to forge lasting friendships and business relationships across Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and Kentucky. Known for his strong work ethic, genuine nature, and friendly spirit, Steve left a meaningful impact on everyone he met.
Outside of work, Steve had a deep love for the outdoors, classic cars, and Indiana sports. He found joy in camping trips with his family and spent countless hours fishing- especially with Marlene. Throughout his life, he owned many hot rods, but he held a special place in his heart for his 1994 pickup truck, which reminded him of his longtime friend, Arthur. A lifelong music lover, Steve also enjoyed dancing and used his goofy spirit and sense of humor to bring laughter and joy to those around him. Whether through a funny face, a silly dance, or a lighthearted prank, he loved making people smile.
Family was everything to Steve. He never missed a birthday, wedding, or family gathering, and he kept every greeting card he was ever given. He was known for his quiet generosity, his steady presence, and his unwavering love for those around him.
Steve was looking forward to retirement and his first trip in his newly remodeled travel trailer—a symbol of his adventurous spirit and love for life.
He will be remembered for his kindness, loyalty, and the warmth he brought into every room. He will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.
