Stephen Paul Miller, 30, of Westfield, Indiana, passed away on July 31, 2025. He was born on December 14, 1994, in Edina, Minnesota, to parents, Paul and Tammi (Kurpe) Miller.
Stephen attended grade school and middle school in Grayson, GA. For high school., he attended Mother of Divine Grace School graduating in May 2012.
He and his family's advocacy for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) began upon diagnosis of DMD at age 8. This led to the creation of the “Steppin for Stephen” Muscular Dystrophy Assocaite (MDA) walk team in the greater Atlanta area which raised over $300,000 for MDA.
His faith in Jesus and his participation in his Roman Catholic faith assisted him to carry his daily crosses over the years.
During his younger years, he enjoyed traveling across the country with his family visiting more than 10 National Parks and over 30 college campuses to visit the local college football stadiums. Stephen was an avid sports enthusiast and especially enjoyed college football. You could say he was a college football fanatic counting down the days to the first kickoff. When college football was in play, he weekly watched games from the kickoff of the first game to the score of the last game. Every weekend, he discussed play by play activities with his gametime best friend Lynn Ory and then always looked forward to the NCAA bowl season and College Football Playoff series. Stephen was an avid Oregon Duck fan, tracking their recruitment positions all year long. He was able to attend the 2012 Rose Bowl between Oregon and Wisconsin and watched the Rose Bowl parade enjoying Pasadena and Los Angeles. Additionally, Stephen was a New York Yankee fan, loved tennis star Raphael Nadal and regularly watched all sports including Golf, Tennis, Soccer and Hockey.
Further, Stephen was an avid movie buff and especially enjoyed watching TV/Movie series and always planned our next series for the family to watch. But most importantly, Stephen was a foodie and became our family in house assistant Chef assisting his mother in creation of dishes. On travels, Stephen looked up “Diners, Drives Ins and Dives” before every road trip to visit the best food locations. But he kept it simple, he loved spaghetti and meatballs, gourmet macaroni and cheese and hot dogs.
Our beloved Son was a quiet, gentle, courageous soul with a dry sense of humor and with a spot on ability to accurately call things as they were. He was special and he will be missed.
Stephen is survived by his parents, Paul and Tammi Miller; his siblings, Jessica Miller and Mikayla (Eric) Brown, nephew Jonathan Paul Brown, Grandmother Jackie Kurpe, multiple Aunts and Uncles, and multiple cousins.
He was preceded in death by his Grandfather Stephen Kurpe, his Grandfather Paul P. Miller, his Grandmother Margaret Elizabeth Miller.
Visitation for Stephen will be from 10am-10:30am on Friday, August 8, 2025, at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church - 1702 Spring Mill Rd., Westfield, IN 46074. A rosary service will take place at 10:30am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am. Burial will take place at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery.
