Stephen Eugene Mitchel, 76, Carmel, peacefully passed away on August 17, 2012, surrounded by his family. Steve was born August 17, 1936 in Indianapolis. He graduated from Carmel High School in 1954 and attended Purdue University. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Parish, Indianapolis, and was a founding parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Carmel. Steve is survived by his wife, Rosalind Abel Mitchel, and eight children, Lucinda Mitchel Ledbetter (Steve); Kathleen Mitchel; Lori Mitchel Edmundson; Jill Mitchel Shively (Scot); Jennifer Mitchel Kane (Jim); Andrew Mitchel (Rachel); Michael Mitchel (Lisa); and Samuel Mitchel (Anne), along with 18 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; and his brothers, Thomas and David (his fraternal twin). He was preceded in death by his parents, Saben and Loretta Connelly Mitchel. He was a machinist and vice-president of Mitchel and Scott Machine Co. He was a member of PMPA, and received his "golden micrometers". He was a lifetime member of the NRA, Loyal Order of the Moose (Lodge), Model A Ford Club, and a lifetime member of the Carmel Clay Historical Society. His hobbies included reading, fishing, shooting and blacksmithing. Friends may call on Monday, August 20, 2012 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm at Flanner and Buchanan-Carmel. The Requiem Mass will be Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at 10:00 am at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Indianapolis. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, Indianapolis.
