Stanley Edward Rohowetz

November 28, 1922 — September 3, 2014

Stanley Edward Rohowetz was born November 28, 1922 and passed away on September 3, 2014. He is the son of the late Josephine and Edward Rohowetz in Dodgeville, WI. Stanley is preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Mary Elaine, who passed away in October, 2013. He is survived by their children John (wife Charlotte), Ed (wife Debbie and children Luke, Landon, Katie and Lauren) and Sheila. Stanley had been a resident of Indianapolis, IN. Since early 2008, he lived in Robin Run Village and was cared for by his daughter the last six months of his life. Stan grew up on a 140 acre farm and attended a one room school house in Dodgeville, WI. He often told a story about how he didn't want to attend school one day and tied a dead skunk on the school room door. His fondest memories were of growing up in the fields of Southern Wisconsin, tending to his farm chores and enjoying the outdoors. He loved forestry, fishing and chasing wildlife as a child. Stanley graduated from Dodgeville High School, where he was salutatorian of his class. He attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison and earned a B.S. in chemistry. While in college he met the love of his life, Elaine, and took her on their first date on Valentine's Day. He went to work as a Chemist for Standard Oil in Berkeley, California, where he helped develop the rocket fuel that was used in WWII. While in Berkeley, he discovered his love of History and Politics. His fondest memory while living in Berkeley, California was when he repainted the CAL letters on the campus hillside into Wisconsin red prior to the Wisconsin vs. Berkeley game in 1944, which the Badgers won. Stanley later worked for American Can Company in Barrington, Illinois for a period of 25 years. His knowledge expertise was working with polymers and adhesives. He developed 12 patents during his tenure. He was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus with a strong Christian belief and a longtime member of the American Chemical Society. While living in Barrington, Stanley and Elaine raised their children to love the outdoors through many excursions camping all over the United States. Stanley enjoyed his summer lake home in Hazelhurst, WI for many years. He was an enthusiastic fan of the Wisconsin Badgers and the Green Bay Packers. He will be remembered as a loving, caring person with great integrity, humor and intelligence. The family would like to thank the many health care professionals and caregivers who assisted Stanley. Memorial contributions may be made to Joy's House 2028 E. Broad Ripple, Indianapolis, IN 46220. A celebration of life will be held September 19, 2014 at Holy Family, 8950 County Highway J, Woodruff, WI 54568 with visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00.
