Sophia Marvella Ward Murray, age 90 of Indianapolis, passed away at 8:00 PM on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Community South Hospital in Indianapolis. Sophia was born in New Castle, Indiana on March 22, 1923 to the late Percy and Carrie Osborne Ward. She married the late Claude Murray on December 10, 1940 in New Castle, Indiana. He preceded her in death on April 7, 1992. She worked at Brooks Canning Factory in Mount Summit, IN. She also worked at Italian Gardens Restaurant in Indianapolis for many years. She also enjoyed being a caregiver for children to numerous families on the Northeast side of Indianapolis for many years. She was an avid dog lover who enjoyed music, dancing, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Surviving, are her children Shirley Beck of Bremerton, WA, Bob (Sheila) Murray of Seymour, IN, Diane Sluder of Indianapolis, IN, Phil (Jacquie) Murray of Greenwood, IN, and Tammy (Greg) Ward of Greenwood, IN. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Andrea, Shannon, Amber, Roger, Christine, Kelli, Stacey, Bill, Larry, Sarena, and Amanda; 20 great grandchildren: Sydney, Jade, Lucas, Joseph, Andrew, Blake, Brianna, Lauren, Megan, Alex, Kristen, Riley, Brittney, Dakota, Dalton, Derrick, Dillon, Matt, Nick, and Brandon; 4 great-great grandchildren: Lillian, Adalyn, Brody, and Rylan; one sister: Peg (Opal) Ward Wheeler of Bedford, IN; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceding her in death are 4 sisters: Bernice Ward Edwards, Alvretta Ward Loy, Beatrice Ward Sears, Enzie Ward LaGrotto; and 2 brothers: Willis Ward and Milo Ward. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Sophia Murray's name to the ASPCA.
