Sondra McCain, 84, of Indianapolis, passed away surrounded by family, March 31st, 2022. She was born July 26th, 1937, in Springfield, Ohio to parents Richard and Helen (Moore) Goings.
Sondra grew up in Springfield, Ohio, and graduated from Springfield High School.
A lifelong Christian, Sondra loved the Lord and was a valued member of Indianapolis First Church of the Nazarene and Assembly of God Church throughout her life.
Sondra was a strong, compassionate woman. Family was most important to her, and she loved spending time with them. She and her daughters enjoyed browsing cookbooks, shopping, and going out to eat. Sondra was an excellent chef. She was also an impressive musician, a trained pianist and bassist. Sondra’s face would light up when her grandchildren and great-grandchildren visited. She took her role as “Nana” very seriously.
Sondra was a devoted wife, mother, Nana, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her first husband Richard Elwood Yocum; daughters Robin (Jim) Koetz, Jenny (Rene) Moran, Valerie (Victor) Moran; grandchildren Aaron Chelikowsky, Jaimee Moran, Alexa Moran, Brandon Harrison, and Jordan Moran; great-grandchildren Rebekah, Leah, Hannah, Jonathan, and Sarah; siblings Jeanne O’Brien, James Goings, Pam Doyle; nieces and nephews Steve, Doug, Scott, Darla, Chris, Justin Mandy, and Eric.
Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her second husband William McCain; and her siblings Helen Yocum and Stanley Goings.
Sondra’s funeral will be Monday April 4th, at 1pm, at Flanner Buchanan Washington Park East. She will be laid to rest at Washington Park East Cemetery.
