Reflection of Life
Solon Coffey, the son of the late Fred and Dora Virginia Coffey was born on October 25, 1936 in Pulaski, Tennessee. He was the oldest of ten children.
Solon attended public schools of Giles County, Tennessee. He relocated to Indianapolis in September of 1956 with his friend and brother from another, Dwain Himes. Mr. Coffey was united in marriage to Barbara Curlin on May 23, 1958. Out of this union bore two children Solon Eugene and Kimberly Yvonne.
Solon was employed by Chevrolet Commercial Body for 38 years retiring January 1, 2000. He was an avid lover of sports especially football which he played in his early years with friends John Nelson and W.H. Wilson. He was especially fond and a huge fan of Clint Eastwood movies and westerns. He also was a motorcycle enthusiast and was a retired member of the Indianapolis branch of the Ruff Ryders Motorcycle Club for 45 years. “Coffey” as he was known by most, was a great and avid cook which has been passed down to his loving daughter, Kim.
Solon departed his earthly life and gained his heavenly residence on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 after a prolonged illness at age 81 years, 6 months and 7 days young. Prior to his transition to his eternal place, Solon affirmed his love of Christ on April 20, 2018 by admonishing “I BELIEVE”. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother James Thomas (Tom) Coffey; son Solon Eugene and grandson Domonike Coffey.
Solon leaves to cherish his memory: devoted wife of 59 years, Barbara; daughter, Kim (Timothy Sr.) Wilson; grandson, T.J. Wilson; granddaughter, Alexis Wilson; and great-granddaughter, Amari; a sister, Ada Y. (John) Nelson; seven brothers, Fred, Jr. (Valerie) Coffey; Robert E. (Evelyn) Coffey; Donald E. (Valerie) Coffey; Michael (Pamela) Coffey; Dennis (Vivian) Nelson; Terry, Alfred, and Kenneth D. Coffey; one brother-in-law, Robert Curlin, and two sisters-in-law, Ruth Ann Coffey, and Beverly Lewis; supportive and loyal co-workers and friends, Tom Hamilton and Earnest Sellars whom called every day to check-in; long-time friend, Robert “Mr. Lucky” Tinsley; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
