Silas G. Johnson, 74, of Indianapolis, IN passed away on September 4, 2013. He was born to Horace and Olive Johnson on July 26, 1939 in Spencer, IN. Silas was the second youngest of eight children: Joy, Ross, Anna, Betty, Jean, Jim, & Oran. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Jeraldine, children Kim (Rob), Kelley (Lance), Michael (Amy), grandchildren, Allison, Alexandra, Austin and great grandchild, Aleia. He was preceded in death by grandchildren, Alicia & Kyle. Silas served his country proudly as a submariner in the US Navy from 1961 to 1975 with multiple deployments on two submarines, USS Lafayette (SSBN616) AND USS Casmir Pulaski (SSBN633), which he helped commission. During his time Silas served as an Electronics Technician in Communication & Navigation and as an Instructor while achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer. After being honorably discharged in 1975, Silas and his family moved back to his home state where he worked at Hurco Manufacturing until retiring due to health reasons in 1989. Services will be held on Monday September 9, 2013 at Camby Community Church, 8604 Camby Road, Camby, IN. Visitation will be from 3-5PM with the ceremony beginning at 5PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Flanner and Buchanan-Decatur.
