Shuang Monica Liang

February 7, 1970 — October 23, 2011

Monica Shuang Liang, 41, Carmel, passed away October 23, 2011. She was born in the north of China, her father named her after the delicate frost forming on the window pane. She was top of her class growing up, went to University in Electrical Engineering then worked in China for several years in real estate development. She moved to Indiana in the early 2000's. She attended school at Indiana University and then found her true calling when she became the International Affairs Director for the City of Marion and then the Director of China Region, Indiana Economic Development Corporation, State of Indiana. In these roles she was able to use her multicultural skills to bridge the gap between east and west. She had continued to work on bringing foreign investments and jobs to Indiana through her many contacts. One of her proudest projects was when she brought a group of Chinese school children to the City of Marion to attend classes and live with the people in the community. This simple exchange was the highlight of the children's experience in America. Monica is survived by her mother, sister, brother, niece and nephew in China. She is also survived loved and remembered by friends all over the world. Monica Shuang Liang was the Aurora Borealis brought to earth for too short of a time. She burst forth color, radiance, undulating form and an indomitable presence. She will be greatly missed by friends and family alike. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, January 6, 2012, at Flanner and Buchanan – Carmel, 325 East Carmel Drive.
