Shirley Dean Wilhoite

Shirley D. Wilhoite, 90, of Speedway, IN passed away on Monday, December 2, 2024. She was the daughter of Howard and Marian (Gibbs) Wilhoite, also of Speedway. Shirley was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, and caregiver and served her family selflessly and lovingly her entire life. She attended George Washington High School and was a graduate of the Speedway High School Class of 1952. Shirley retired, proudly, after serving 39 years with the Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance Company in 1991. Shirley enjoyed her time and travels with family and friends and visited many sights and attractions, with the Sarasota, Florida beaches being her favorite destination. In her younger years she attended the Speedway United Methodist Church and also enjoyed participating in many bowling leagues.

 Anyone who knew Shirley, knew she was an avid Elvis fan. A highlight for her was attending his final concert at Market Square Arena in June 1977. Shirley was a strong and independent woman her entire life and will be missed by all. She is survived by brothers - Maurice (JoAnn) Wilhoite and Wallace (Lynn) Wilhoite, nieces and nephews - Debbie (Ray) Head, Chris (Cynthia) Wilhoite, Cynthia (Ron) Beilke, Scott (Kary) Wilhoite, Randy Wilhoite, Jill Johnson, David (Jennifer) Johnson and Jacquie Johnson, numerous great nieces and nephews and special Gibbs and Wilhoite cousins. A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, December 16th at 11:30 am with visitation one hour prior at Flanner and Buchanan – Speedway Funeral Center, 2950 N. High School Road, Speedway, IN. Private graveside services will be held at the Danville South Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to your favorite charity this holiday season in Shirley's memory.
