Shirley Reed Whitman, 93, of Brownsburg, Indiana, passed away on December 4, 2023. She was born on August 13, 1930, in Indianapolis, to the late Lynn and Katherine Reed.

Shirley received her degree in Psychology from IUPUI. After graduating, she pursued many different career opportunities, but landed on a position for Walker Research, from which she retired.

Shirley and her late husband, James, loved attending the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and going to Colts games. They had season tickets for both. Shirley and James also enjoyed travelling, namely to Canada and England, where they had been twice.

She will be remembered for her loving and caring spirit, and will be missed by all who knew her.

Shirley is survived by her children, Connie (Jim) Simpson and Steven Whitman; grandchildren, Brad Simpson, Jeffrey (Emily) Simpson, and Stefanie (Dan) Simpson; and great grandchildren, Evie and Nathan.

Shirley is preceded in passing by her husband, James Howard Whitman, and her son, James “Jimmy” Reed Whitman.

A Visitation will be held on Monday, December 11, from 11 am to 12 noon, with a Service to follow at 12 noon, at Flanner Buchanan – Broad Ripple, 1305 Broad Ripple Avenue. Shirley’s final resting place will be at Washington Park North Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial contribution in Shirley’s name to the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra or to St. Luke’s United Methodist Church.
