Shirley Ruth Murphy,

81, of Indianapolis, IN passed away on January 13, 2017. She was born in Big Stone Gap, Virginia on August 17, 1935 to the Late Eckle Jones and Sallie (Riggs) Hammond. Shirley was a wonderful mother to her nine children, and enjoyed old Western movies (especially ones with John Wayne), gospel music, and Rod Stewart.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bert Murphy; and two sons. She is survived by her seven children, nine Grandchildren, four Grandchildren (and one on the way), as well as extended family and friends.

Friends may call from 1pm until 3pm Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Flanner and Buchanan- Memorial Park, 9350 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis, with services to follow at 3pm. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
