Shirley D. McDonald, 83, of Greenfield, passed away peacefully April 21st, 2026.
Shirley was born on May 1, 1942, to parents Henry Clay Bowsher & Ann Bell (Comstock) Riley in Indianapolis. Shirley graduated from Arsenal Tech High School.
In 1963, Shirley married the love of her life, Walter Ray McDonald. Together, they had two beautiful children and shared 54 wonderful years. Walter passed away November 23rd, 2017.
Growing up with several siblings, she was always very family oriented. She and her identical twin Sylvia had a special bond, and a promise to spend every birthday together, no matter what. Sylvia passed away in June 2025, and Shirley is able to fulfill her promise, as they spend this year’s birthday, in heaven, together.
Shirley was a vibrant, loving woman, who lit up every room she entered. She was the perfect host from food to decorations and loved entertaining. Shirley and Walt had a huge Indy 500 cookout and Superbowl party with their famous beef stew. As the party increased in size each year they would welcome all and just increase the amount of food they made, and every guest left well fed. She enjoyed staying active including long walks with her yorkie, Snicker, shopping, playing softball and bowling. She enjoyed playing cards and was always up for a game of Euchre. A true Hoosier, Shirley, was always rooting for the Colts and the Pacers. She had a big heart for animals, loving many pets throughout her life. She enjoyed gardening and was a talented seamstress. She never missed a holiday to decorate and celebrate.
Family was the center of Shirley’s world and she adored time with her grandchildren. Meeting her great-grandchild brought a huge smile to her face. She was a devoted sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Shirley is survived by her children Debra Bozymski (Michael) and Michael McDonald (Teresa); grandchildren Kevin Bozymski (Kate), Danielle Zimmerman (Mike), Brian Bozymski (Monica); great-grandson Philip Bozymski; and siblings Jeanie Nye (Mike), and Donnie Bowsher (Caroline).
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Walter; brother Robert Bowsher, beloved twin Sylvia Metzger (Mike); and her furbabies, Cinder, Dusty, Bandit, and Snicker.
Visitation for Shirley will be May 2nd at Flanner Buchanan Washington Park East, from 10:30am-12pm. Her funeral service will begin at 12pm. She will be laid to rest at Washington Park East Cemetery.
