Shirley Lorraine Gilliatt, 76, of Speedway, Indiana, passed away on June 11, 2013. A memorial gathering will take place on Saturday, June 15, 2013 from 11am to 1pm at the Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center located in Speedway, Indiana.
Shirley loved taking family vacations to Dauphin Island on the Gulf shore when her children were younger. She enjoyed spending time at the cabin that her family owned in Southern Indiana. In her spare time, Shirley enjoyed gardening, watching the Bonanza and Gunsmoke television shows, completing word searches, watching NASCAR and Indy car races and reading novels by the likes of Danielle Steele and Nora Roberts. She was an incredible cook. Shirley and her husband, Gene, enjoyed vacationing at their condo in Bonita Beach, FL, where she loved walking the beach daily while collecting sea shells. Shirley traveled to Colorado, New York and Florida frequently to spend time with her children and grandchildren. She had an undeniable and undying love for Elvis Presley. Shirley was a remarkably strong and courageous woman that one could not only depend on, but a woman that one's heart and soul found comfort in while in her presence. With one look into her deep, ocean-blue eyes, one could find peace and solace in any situation they found themselves in. Shirley will be sorely missed and her memory and name will be celebrated in each passing day.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Arthur Eugene Gilliatt and her children: Cindy Lou Padgett, Pamela Kay Tullis, Steven and Constance Gilliatt, Doug Gilliatt and Clyde W.
