Shirley Fouch Muller

January 16, 1935 — September 9, 2011

After a brave battle with Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease, Shirley Fouch Muller, 76, passed away peacefully Friday morning in her home in Carmel. Born January 16, 1935, to Betty and Herschel Fouch, Shirley grew up in Kokomo before attending high school in Chicago. She attended DePauw University, where she met her husband of more than 50 years, Robert L. Muller. After graduation, Shirley and Bob were married on June 14, 1959 at the First Congregational Church in Indianapolis. Shirley's first job after college was with the state welfare department. The couple lived in Indianapolis before moving overseas. After returning to the States, she was a resident of Carmel for almost 40 years. Shirley is survived by her husband and four children: David (Kim Hubbard) Muller, Kathy (Mike) Locke, Mike (Heidi) Muller, and Michelle (Doug) Caylor; 12 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild. Shirley was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother who will be greatly missed. She enjoyed traveling, bridge club, league bowling, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was an active volunteer for Questers, Pleasant Run Children's Home, Carmel PTOs, and Carmel Travel Soccer. A celebration of Shirley's life will be held on Tuesday, September 13 at 1 PM at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center- Carmel, 325 E. Carmel Drive, with visitation from 11 AM until service time. A family burial service is scheduled for Thursday, September 15 at Crown Point Cemetery in Kokomo, IN.
