Shirley Ann Denney

Shirley Ann Denney, 84, passed away peacefully at her home on March 10th, 2026. She was born April 26th, 1941, to William and Mabel (Dickmeyer) Watson.

Shirley grew up in Indianapolis area/Plainfield and graduated from Plainfield High School.

On October 27th, 1967, Shirley married Paul R. Denney. She was a military spouse who supported and sacrificed a lot for her husband. They shared many wonderful years together, raising a happy family. Paul passed away in June 2011.

Shirley was a very loving woman and devoted to her family. She loved being a mother to her three daughters and was elated when she became a grandmother. Shirley was an excellent cook. She took great pride in her gardens, of both flowers and veggies. Shirley loved many pets throughout her life and always had a tender spot for West Highland Terriers.

Shirley is survived by her daughters Debra Cate (Mike), Dolores Durrance (Red), and Paula Gilbert (Tim). Her grandchildren Michael Cate (Ashley), Amy Doughtie (Adam), Matthew Cate (Maria), Ashly Rojas (Alaric), Michael Uhlig (Kasey), and Tyler Goodwin (Lindsey). Great grandchildren Brandon, Breeley, Piper, Perry, Ryan, Abigail, Madilyn, Emma, Ethan, Renea, Kalin, Raymond Michael, Maxwell, Lilah, Allister, Evelynn, and her loving dog Teagan.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Paul; her sister Dolores White.

Visitation for Shirley will be on Tuesday March 17th at Flanner Buchanan Washington Park East from 12:30-1:30pm. Her funeral will begin at 1:30pm. She will be laid to rest at Maple Hill Cemetery in Plainfield, Indiana.
