Shirley Cooper Schaust
88, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully at her residence in Carmel, Indiana on Wednesday, December 4, 2014. She was born April 24, 1926 in Waltham, Massachusetts to William E. and Ethel Frail Cooper.
Shirley loved life and touched all those around her with her light-hearted spirit. Her inner strength and determination served her well throughout her life. She loved gardening, beautiful flowers and spending time in the sun on the beach. But her greatest pleasure and pride in life was her close relationship with her children and grandchildren.
She was a 1943 graduate of Newton High School in Newton, Massachusetts and studied at Boston University.
Shirley married the love of her life, Don Schaust on June 3, 1972 and he preceded her in death on December 16, 2007.
She spent much of her retirement years traveling with Don, gardening and being an active member and volunteer for numerous organizations including Carmel Green Space, Hamilton Co. Master Gardeners and Holliday Park. She was a member of Orchard Park Presbyrterian.
Shirley is survived by her children, Cincy Harris, Karin Smith, Tom Harris, Elizabeth White, Tom Schaust, John Schaust; 18 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held Saturday, December 6th, 2014 at Flanner and Buchanan – Carmel from 1-3pm.
